Something’s In The Water

I don’t know why I’m so picture crazy these last few days, but I am.

So, here are some more photos:

These next two photos are of a quilt one of my students made for Alexander.  She is 11 and worked on it all summer long!

Wow!

Alexander picked this up on his own and started chewing on it.  Look how his feet are in the air.  His newest trick is to hold onto them, though he can’t quite get them in his mouth yet.

I’m just full of posts this evening…

I forgot to mention what we did this weekend, other than have dinner and make cards…

Yesterday morning I was planning on taking some of my students hiking.  I’m teaching a class about the Appalachian Trail this quarter and I decided, since I only had five kids, that I was going to take them hiking.

Well, I pulled out of the driveway and the Forrester was making a lot of noise.  I go under the stone bridge and finally pull over.  The Forrester had a flat.

I called home and woke Stu up.  I walked home, met him and Alexander, and Stu had to drive me out to school at 7:00 in the morning!  Oops!

Our hike left a bit late, and got back a bit late, but I think we had more fun than Stu who had to change a flat and take the car to the mechanic, who informed us we need four new tires….good thing we didn’t get the Rodeo fixed!

Anyway, here’s a successful hike photo from yesterday!

Christmas Time is Here…

When you’ve got family all over the world, you’ve got to start your Christmas planning early.

All I need to do is wrap Nan and Pa’s pressie and I’m near the wrapping stage with Stu’s Nan’s pressie.

The problem is, I’ve gotten sidetracked making cards.

Here are some samples you all will most likely be getting for xmas this year!

4-month photos!

Just a few photos.  The other boy in the photo is Braden.  We went to birthing class with Braden’s mom and dad and they were born on the same day.  Braden was two pounds lighter than Alexander and now about a pound heavier.

Some Pics

Here are some pics of Joys new car and our weird trees. We have four trees of the same type, except one things its not Autumn yet and wont change, the others are a beautiful deep ruby red colour. You can see the lack of rain has really taken its toll on our lawns.

The Saturn Ion is the same as the Chevy cobalt.

New Car

Joys faithful Isuzu Rodeo died.

Well it didn’t die as much needed a makeover. We had been having problems with the radiator guzzling fluid, it was coming out of the overflow bottle due to a blockage somewhere (pressure test found nothing and block test on the engine found nothing)... So we put it in to have Merchants check it out. Well I never!

It needed four new tires, we’d done the CV boot and damaged the axle, radiator to be flushed and hoses changed, pressure test + block test.

It was going to cost us over $1,200 to fix (and we had paid out $500 the previous week on the rear bearing). Its only worth $1500!!

So we found ourselves at the Saturn dealership that was doing zero percent finance on 2007 models.

They gave us $1700 for the rodeo (whoo!!) and we got a new car for less than we would have got for a second hand car.

The downside is it is a 5 speed manual transmission on a 2.2 liter engine.

Joy cant drive a manual transmission.

So last night we found ourselves in the church parking lot with me trying to instruct joy in her first lesson which was ok. We learned joy cant keep the revs constant (she pulses the accelerator). Once we learn how to keep the revs constant we will be ok, We did a couple of smooth starts and we stalled a couple of times, which is ok.

In the meantime I am driving it to work.

Gardening

The veggie patch is now knee high weeds and dry midget corn stalks. Joy and I did find one tiny bell pepper plant still growing in the weeds when we looked the other day. I really need to hoe it under, cover it in some straw + fertilizer and cover the top in black plastic and let it sit covered all fall + winter.

Our haning basket plants have withered up and mostly died off for the autum. Leaves have turned and are dropping all over the road, so all we need is a little autum shower and the roads will be very slick and slippery.

Temperatures have dropped. Wednesday it was 90’s (30c) and Thursday it was low 60’s (17c). Last night the heater came on so I know it dropped down low…Lets hope the unsually warm October weather is passed us now, we really need some rain/snow this year.

Joys rodeo is slowly dieing, its consuming coolant in vast quantities but nobody knows where its going, engine oil is not creamy so its not going into the engine.. no puddles on the ground. Garage did a pressure test and that was ok. We are going to get the radiator flushed and hoses changed and will just nurse it along with extra coolant every other day, as the option was to deplete our savings and look for another car, but we decided not to do that as having a savings buffer is too important right now.

Sitting Up

Alexander is making quite some progress, everytime we lay him down or put him to bed he does his best to try and sit right up. Karen (the sitter) said she thinks he is getting frustrated at seeing the other kids move around and he cant. When we lay him on his stomach he gets his little knees under himself and pushes his butt up into the air, but he cant quite figure he has to move his little arms etc to drag himself along yet.

He slept through the night last night, so hopefully we are back to normal schedule, lately he has been not eating before going to bed and waking up at 1am-2am and then 4am to eat.

Heres hoping last night was not a one off!
