Christmas

We had a great Christmas!  A WHITE CHRISTMAS—the first time in years we’ve had one of these.  And, guess what Stu got me for Christmas??

Ha!  No, not a horse or a cat, but a NEW CAMERA!! A Huge Professional one!

So anyway, under the cut are LOADS of photos like this:

brownies and merry christmas

Just a quick video and a few photos.

This photo is of a craft I was doing. They were supposed to be reindeer, instead they look like angry clowns.  The faces are the boys feet, the antler/red clown hair is their hand prints.

Chicken and Christmas Tree Video

Here are two videos I’ve been meaning to upload.  I just seem to be a bit busier than normal lately—don’t know why….

Chickens moved

The chicken coop was finally finished, much to Joy’s happiness. I think they liked moving from the Calcutta Slum to the Mountain Resort (named after the Chengde Mountain Resort in China).

The wire extends 1 foot below the ground to deter foxes from digging under it making it vastly safer than the Calcutta Slum they previously inhabited.

The last holdout of the guerrilla egg laying movement ceased this week in preparation for winter. I expect we will not see a resurgence in covert egg laying until late spring when the hours of daylight increases again. I really despise buying eggs again, its so foreign and those store bought eggs are just awful in comparison

Photos and Video

Well, in an hour and 16 minutes Sebastian will be officially a week old.  I think I’ll let him sleep through his birthday!

I’m attaching some photos under the cut and here’s a video of Alexander’s reaction to Sebastian!

Stu went back to work today, and as with Alexander, I’m going to try to post a photo a day during the week while I’m home so that you all and Stu can watch Sebastian grow before your very eyes!

Enjoy the photos under the cut.  Hope this makes up for the week with no photos!

Two new photos of Alexander.  I think they may be the cutest to date, but I am a bit biased…

Chicken Coop

As fall/autumn approaches, work on the chicken coop has been somewhat dragged out. Yesterday I finally got it mostly leveled, enough that we said ‘Enough!’

What is left to do?

- Dig 1ft into the ground so we can bury the wire (stops the foxes digging underneath)
- Staple wire around base and bury it
- Screw the access ramp to the underside of the box
- Screw in the roosting poles
- Import food + water
- Show chickens new real estate ad for condo space and up-sell them to move from the old slum to the new mountain view condo! (Eggs required as down payment).

So nothing really big to do.

Whose hubby is the best hubby in the world?

Ok, so I know the title of this post is mushy…but when your hubby does what mine did today, you’ve got to do something to show him he’s appreciated, right?

My parents brought down three bushels of apples for Stu to make some more applesauce with.  I headed down to Roanoke with my friend April, her daughter and Alexander in tow, and we when shopping for the day while Stu worked on the sauce.

He started at 7:00 this morning, finished at 5:00, and the final outcome looked something like this:

I helped him load these containers up.
image
This was the sauce already done when I got home.
image
This is the sauce he had cooling to put in the rest of the containers.
image
In case you can’t count that high, we ended up with 44 more containers on top of the 17 he made the other weekend.  Eight gallons of applesauce!  I proceeded to eat about two gallons of it for dinner.  I hope we have enough to last through next weekend! smile

Oh, and because Stu is so wonderful, I stopped by our favorite donut shop, Blue Collar Joe’s, on the way home (it’s about an hour down to this donut shop, so we don’t do it too often), to get him a surprise thank you gift.  Feast your eyes on these beauties!

Apple Sauce

Today I made apple sauce. We had a bushel of “Ginger Gold” apples, and I sauced the lot of them. 17 containers, so we are good for at least 2 to 3 months on apple sauce.

If you ask google how many apples in a bushel, this is what it says;

One bushel of apples weighs about 42 lbs. One pound of apples generally consists of 4 small apples or 3 medium or 2 large apples.

so think 100-120 odd apples.

The photos show but a fraction of the action
