Brake Fluid

At some point over the winter my GT absorbed a shitload of water and air and turned it into a lethal cocktail.. At normal room temperature the rear wheel is locked fairly solid, thats how pumped up the brake is.

Thats no problem I just need to bleed and flush the old fluid and put in some new stuff…

Sure… no problem right.

Try buying DOT5.1 brake fluid. Was gonna take a week and have to be sent from california and any savings I make buying online I loose in shipping.

I did the next sensible thing, I went to the local auto parts store.. Only DOT3 and 4. So I go to the local motor bike store.. nah he has DOT3 but some guy came in asking for mineral oil last week…

I then visit the bike shop behind where I work, they charge 40$ A BRAKE for flushing.. so I’d be out 80$ plus tax, plus they order in the oil on Monday and it gets there on Friday.

So I’m back looking at that Motul DOT5.1 in the shop in California…

And while I’m changing fluids I should probably change the pads too..

So now the problem I have is finding pads for my Hope M4’s in America. EBay to the rescue! Waaaiit a minute, most everything I can find is for the “newer” model the Mono M4’s which wont work for me. I have old-style M4’s.

ARGH!

Well there is one guy on Ebay with some old style M4 pads…

Maybe I should buy a few sets just to be safe..

In a perfecet world wink I’d upgrade from old M4’s to new Mono-M4’s or Mono-Mini’s or whatever they are called…

Anyway, I need to go order some Motul from California.

The scroll work doesn’t like the flash but you can see some of the wood colouring

The breakopen mechanism, you can see the ejectors

This is where it lives, locked away, being guarded by the trusty GT mountain bike, ready to pounce at a moments notice

Increase the Length Of Pull

A week or two back I added a LimbSaver slide on recoil pad, Its nice and soft. Instead of removing the old standard rubber pad that came with the Lanber I just added the slip-on over the end of it, this increased my length of pull by about half an inch bringing the LOP up to abount 15 inches which is nice.

Shouldering it is nice but the rubber of the Limb Saver really snags clothing and feels like you have to do a big thrust-away and shoulder deal rather than sliding up and under the armpit.

The Lanber also opens nicely now, its still a little tough to pop all the way and the ejectors pop the shells right out, which if your not ready for it can be a shock. I was expecting extractors not ejectors and piing! snap caps come flying out at me.

I will try and take some pics of the Lanber tonight.

I also picked up a bore-snake, and when I opened it, didn’t realise a segment of it is covered in brass spikes, not fun grabbing that thing thats for sure.

Last thing was putting a box of moisture absorbing crystals in the bottom of the gun cabinet. Apparently you can stick it back in the oven to re-active them when they become full of moisture, which will probably have to be done every couple of months this winter.

Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays, its like golf with a shotgun.

I wonder if that means I need to buy plaid pants and long socks?

I still need to work the action on my Over/Under some more. Still stiff, so I need to clean off the receiver, forearm and hinge pin and re-grease and work it, work it, work it!

Maybe over the coming weeks I can go back out to the Glorious 12th range and do some POI testing and some skeet again…?

I want to take Joy with me so she can have a crack too but would need someone to look after the little boy…. We will see….

My New shotgun

Picked up my new shotgun this morning after doing the paperwork. Its heavy! heavier than I expected 7lbs to weigh but the weight feels nice on the swing. I would rather feel the weight more in the fore end than the back end but its ok.

Cleaned off the packing grease, which wasnt too bad. A little synthetic grease where barrel breaks open, light oil on the choke tubes, seems we are good to go..

except…

I didnt heed the warning of all the other new Lanber owners… holy mistletoe batman is the action STIFF! erk. Everyone suggests you sit on the couch and break it open/close a couple of hundered times and I can see why.

I am going to need to get a limbsaver or kickeeze to increase the LOP by half an inch and save my shoulder grin

Shotguns

Ordered my lanber 2087 yesterday. Its a Over/Under shotgun with 28inch barrels, 3inch chamber on 12gauge weighing 7 pounds. Its about 45 inches long, so will fit nicely into my new shotgun cabinet.

Ive no intention of going hunting, just sporting clays and some skeet/trap etc.

The below are stock photos. I’m pretty sure mine has ribbing between the two stack barrels (photo has a gap).
